Herniated Disc

A spinal disc has two parts. The disc is like a flat disc which when we are young it is well hydrated and as we age it looses hydration and form. There is a thick outer rubber band like exterior and a soft, jelly like, thin center.

When the exterior thick band has a tear the thin inner center can leak out. This is called a herniated disc.

There are many symptoms that can be created by a herniated disc two of them include

  • Neck pain
  • Pain into the arms and hand
  • Lower back pain
  • Sciatica (pain into the legs)

When seeing a chiropractor at Sarasota Chiropractic, Physical Therapy and Massage you will undergo a complete evaluation which can include orthopedic exams, postural screening, reflex and sensory testing, along with diagnostic testing (X-Rays and/or MRI).

There are many forms of conservative care that can help with a herniated disc including gentle chiropractic adjustments, the use of traction, inversion, ultrasound, electromuscle stimulation, stretching and exercise.

If you’re experiencing a herniated disc in Sarasota, give us a call today to schedule a consultation with one of our chiropractors!
